Trump’s AI Doctrine: Deregulate, Dominate, and Ditch Copyright Claims
The TRUMP administration has unveiled a bold stance on AI and intellectual property, advocating for deregulation and dismissing copyright constraints as impractical. "You can’t be expected to have a successful AI program when every single article, book or anything else that you’ve read or studied, you’re supposed to pay for," Trump declared at an AI summit hosted by the All-In Podcast and Hill & Valley Forum. This marks the first clear articulation of the administration's position on generative AI and copyright.
Accompanying the remarks was a 28-page "AI Action Plan" outlining over 90 policy recommendations. The report frames AI as a geopolitical battleground, with the U.S. needing to dominate to counter China. The plan prioritizes speed over safeguards, proposing to scrap Biden-era oversight and allow AI firms to use content without restriction. "We believe we’re in an AI race, and we want the United States to win that race," said David Sacks, the administration’s AI and crypto czar.
The approach contrasts sharply with Biden’s 2023 executive order, which emphasized safety and ethics. Trump’s doctrine leans into deregulation, positioning AI as a tool for national supremacy rather than a domain requiring guardrails.
